PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION TEAM:
The purpose of the Competition Dance Team at Ann's School of Dance (ASD) is to allow dancers the opportunity to participate in a team environment and pursue their dance education on a more competitive and professional level. The Competition Team is intended for dancers who strive to push themselves and improve performance on a consistent basis. This is a learning environment for dancers to step outside the box and choose to dance beyond their annual recital, benefiting from the feedback of judges to further their technical skills and performance experience. The Competition Team also gives the dancers a wonderful opportunity to bond as teammates, encourage each other, grow together, and celebrate with each other.
Auditions & TEAM PLACEMENT:
Current and prospective Team dancers must audition each year to be a part of the Competition Dance Team. Auditions take place in June after the Spring Session. Team members are required to participate in our Jazz Line/Production number and one jazz routine. Team members may audition for additional styles and will be placed into groups based on the dancer’s demonstration of skill. Audition results are announced in early July.
Competitions:
The ASD Competition Team attends 3 competitions in the Michigan area during the regular dance season, performs in the Spring recital, and attends Nationals every other year. Throughout the dance season, there may also be optional opportunities for dancers competing in solos/duets/trios to attend additional competitions.
